NSF Research Security Training requirement – effective October 10, 2025
This message was sent via MRAM. Please share with any who may be interested
Effective October 10, 2025, all senior/key personnel identified on an NSF proposal must complete Research Security Training (RST) within 12 months prior to proposal submission to NSF. These same individuals must also make a certification on their Current & Pending (Other) Support page that this training has been completed.
This requirement applies whether UW is applying directly in Research.gov, or is submitting proposal materials to a pass-through entity and anticipates a subaward.
Please share the link to this Research Security Training with your researchers who anticipate applying for NSF funding in the near future. Once they have completed the four-module training, completion will be reflected in MyResearch Training Transcript (MRTT). A shorter, 1-hour version of the course will also be available via CITI later this fall; look for a follow-up announcement from the UW Research Security Office when that version of the training is available for UW Researchers.
As part of Institutional Review of proposals, OSP will be checking completion records whenever the sponsor or originating sponsor has a Research Security Training requirement at the proposal stage. In addition, we highly recommended that unit grant managers/administrators:
- Remind researchers to take this training.
- Check the completion record for researchers in the unit regularly, in the Research Security Training Lookup tool (UW Net ID Required).
We also recommend eGC1 reviewers check the completion record as eGC1s route.
