New Workday Eligible Investigator Feature Implemented
Since the implementation of Workday, Principal Investigators (PIs) have encountered challenges when changes are made to their employment positions. Specifically, when a PI’s position changes in Workday, they may lose access to their grants, which can disrupt routing and approval workflows.
To address this issue, a new feature has been introduced that ensures PIs remain assigned to their grants throughout the entire award lifecycle — even when their position or appointment changes.
Effective October 14, 2025, Workday PI records have been updated for all grants. Going forward, PIs will be assigned to grants through their Eligible Investigator record rather than at the position level. This record remains active regardless of changes to a PI’s position or appointment, ensuring that PIs retain grant access and can continue performing grant-related functions without interruption.
How to verify an Eligible Investigator assignment:
Within Workday, if the Eligible Investigator role is assigned, it will appear in the following format:
Eligible Investigator: [PI Last Name], [PI First Name]
