Daniel Schwartz serves as the UW Liaison to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), the Department of Energy’s billion dollar per year research center in Richland, Washington. In this role, Dan is responsible for facilitating faculty dual appointments with PNNL, as well as joint graduate fellowship programs and collaborative research activities.

Dan received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 1989, and following postdoctoral training at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, joined the University of Washington in 1991, where he currently holds the Boeing-Sutter Professorship in Chemical Engineering, and serves as Director of the Clean Energy Institute.

Dan is an electrochemical engineer, Fellows of the Electrochemical Society, and elected member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences. He was named to the inaugural cohort of Oppenheimer Science and Energy Leaders by the Secretary of Energy. Dan is recipient of the UW Marsha Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award and the White House/NSF Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.
