Mouse Online: Working with Mice at the University of Washington Course

Provides important information about using laboratory mice in biomedical research settings and to help ensure their humane care and use. This course is the 1st of a 2-part series, the 2nd course being the in-person Mouse Hands-on Laboratory.

Who is required to take this training?

Personnel who will be handling or performing procedures on awake mice.

Summary of the requirement

The PHS Policy as implemented by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare requires that the institution is responsible for the training of its staff. Among other things, training must ensure that individuals are trained and qualified in handling techniques, and that researchers performing experimental manipulations, are qualified to accomplish such procedures humanely.
