Classified Information
Classified information is material designated by government officials as sensitive and requiring protection. Access is restricted to individuals with the appropriate security clearance and “need to know.” Misuse or mishandling may result in criminal penalties.
Classified Information Official Definition:
Information determined under E.O. 13526 (or predecessor/successor orders) and the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, to require protection against unauthorized disclosure in the interest of national security. Includes National Security Information (NSI), Restricted Data (RD), and Formerly Restricted Data (FRD).
