As Associate Vice Provost for Research, Sara Curran will be responsible for overseeing, reviewing and approving Organized Research Units. She will also be working with the UW research community and the Office of Research around how the UW research infrastructure can facilitate and support community engagement and productive, community engaged research. In addition, she will serve as a liaison to the Office of Research around supporting the full breadth of social science research at the UW.

Sara Curran is a Professor of International Studies, Sociology, and Public Policy & Governance. She received her PhD from the University of North Carolina in sociology with specializations in demography and economic development. Her research focuses on human population dynamics, gender and family, climate change and demographics, and research methods development. She is currently directing the UW’s Center for Studies in Demography & Ecology, which is an NIH funded research infrastructure center to advance population research through capacity building.  She is also the Program Director of an NIH T32 focused on data science, demography and population health training. She has extensive, successful experience writing, reviewing, and mentoring grant applications directed towards NIH, NSF, and foundations. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Demography and serves on several national boards, including the National Academies US Global Climate Change Research Committee’s Advisory Board.
