UW Diabetes Research Center now offering mouse metabolic phenotyping services

The Cell Function Analysis Core (CFAC), one of four cores of the NIH-funded UW Diabetes Research Center (DRC), has long offered precise real time functional analysis of intact cells and primary tissue. With a recent expansion into in vivo metabolic testing, the CFAC now offers glucose / insulin tolerance tests and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamps, the latter being a unique service to the West coast. These services can assess critical metabolic measures in unstressed, freely-moving, chronically catheterized mice. Measurements include, but are not limited to, insulin sensitivity and secretion, glucose effectiveness, and with the use of tracers, tissue-specific glucose uptake.
