UW, Tribal Partnership to Develop Bioenergy

Shwetak's start-up Zensi has been acquired by Belkin International

Zensi, a research startup that uses simple technology to monitor home electricity and water use, has been acquired by electronics company Belkin International Inc. The startup was based on technology developed by Shwetak Patel, a University of Washington assistant professor in the departments of computer science and engineering and electrical engineering. DoE Awards $2.5M to Develop Training Program on Clean Energy & Smart Grid Engineering

The Department of Energy has awarded $2.5 million for a joint UW/WSU project that will develop a program to train engineers in clean energy and smart grid engineering.

UW Environmental Innovation Challenge 2010 offers clean-tech solutions

Engineering, science and business students pitched energy-efficient, clean-technology ideas for sustainable living at the UW Environmental Innovation Challenge. Winners included UW Engineering team EnVitrum (for grand prize of $10,000) who created bricks made out of recycled glass that can also grow plants or cool buildings and UW interdisciplinary team Triangle Energy (for second prize of $5,000) who invented a mobile biomass converter that turns wood chips into synthesis gas.
