Effects of International Travel Prohibition on Research

The Provost has issued a notice prohibiting international travel, effective immediately.

This prohibition applies to all official UW travel, including international travel for UW research, whether or not the costs of the travel are being paid using University funds. International travel for UW research is prohibited, even if a researcher wishes to pay for it personally.

Consider alternative means of accomplishing the goals of the research project that do not involve international travel. This may entail adjusting the methodology or the goals themselves. Of course, be sure to follow sponsor guidelines if significant changes are made.

In some cases, certain costs associated with emergencies arising from international research may be allowable charges to grants. Check the conditions of the award, refer to recently issued guidance from the sponsor (if any), and consult with OSP, as needed.
