What is your Research Focus?

In his research, Park engages with machine learning and its applications in smart manufacturing and physical science. He uses surrogate modeling and experimental design to create digital twins for cyber-physical systems and develop autonomous systems for AI-driven scientific discovery platforms. He also explores the problem of understanding processing-structure-property in materials imaging through modeling and analysis of object data. In 2021, he authored Data Science for Nano Image Analysis, which summarizes much of his research in these areas. He has received a number of honors and awards, including the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Award, Brainpool Fellowship, and IIE Best Paper Award.

What opportunities at the UW excite you?

My research lies at the intersection of AI, statistics, and engineering, often driven by real-world industrial applications. I am drawn to the University of Washington’s robust expertise in this field and the abundant opportunities provided by the surrounding tech companies.
