Step 1: Create a UW Study Abroad Profile
Log into MyGlobal (UW’s Study Abroad portal) to create a profile before meeting with an adviser. This step will help us guide you effectively.
Step 2: Consult with your academic adviser
Consult with your academic adviser about your degree requirements and discuss how your study abroad credits will fit into your academic path.
Step 3: Schedule a virtual one-on-one appointment or drop in during our office hours
Virtual one-on-one appointment
- Select one of the options below based on the type of questions you have to schedule a one-on-one virtual appointment.
- Advising appointments open on a daily basis and can be booked up to two weeks in advance depending on the appointment type. Slots beyond this period won’t show on the calendar.
- Late Policy: 5 minutes – If you are late for the appointment, your appointment will be canceled.
- Start your study abroad search by picking a virtual appointment time that works best for you from the options below.
- Our general study abroad advisers can help you with narrowing down your options and beginning to apply to programs.

Exchanges, Partner Programs, Direct Enrollment & FRILA
For students who are interested in or are already applying to an exchange program, partner program, direct enrollment, or FRILA program, pick a virtual appointment time that works best for you below. Learn more about program types are on our study abroad program types and comparison pages.
Faculty-led Programs
To learn more about a specific faculty-led program, we encourage you to contact the faculty program director. You can find their contact information in the Questions tab of the program brochures. If you have general questions about a faculty-led Program, make a General Advising Appointment using the link above.

This type of advising applies to exchanges, partner programs, direct enrollment, and FRILA. Before booking a virtual appointment, please review the following content:
- You are planning to apply ⇒ Academics & credits
- These appointments are for RETURNING students who have ALREADY studied abroad and need help with the credit conversion process.
- For UW equivalent credits for foreign courses, contact departmental academic advisers with course syllabi that can be downloaded from the provider’s or partner institution’s website.
- You are currently abroad or returning from abroad ⇒ Receiving credits post-program
- If you’re wondering whether a course you took abroad can count toward A&H, SSc, or NSc credits, please contact an academic adviser. If the UW equivalent course is already designated to fulfill one of these general education requirements, the credit will be awarded automatically.
