The Family Village Project describes itself as a "global community that integrates information, resources, and communication opportunities on the Internet for persons with cognitive and other disabilities, for their families, and for those that provide them services and support."
Founded in 1996, the Family Village organizes its resources around a town center theme. For example, in the library you can look up information on over 300 specific disabilities. In the coffee shop you can connect with other individuals with disabilities and their families. The Family Village brings together resources on transportation, health issues, legal issues, disability culture, education, leisure and daily living needs, and much more.
The Family Village Project demonstrates a promising practice in its creation of a focused, global community where people with disabilities, their families, and friends can access thousands of resources.
