David is a recent graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a minor in applied mathematics. This summer, David is working in Dr. Liangcai Gu’s lab at the Institute for Protein Design on the development of light induced protein dimerization systems for the control of cellular process with light. He hopes that such approaches can be applied in the future to help solve relevant biological questions in both medical and basic research applications. He is also currently preparing to apply to graduate school in the fall. When he is not devoting his time to research, David likes to run as well as design orienteering courses. Since he enjoys backpacking, he is also an active backcountry volunteer with the Washington Trail Association. Professionally, he is interested in applying physical, chemical and biological principles to help design new proteins for medical and basic science applications.
