Student Success & Well-being Coaching

Student Success & Well-being Coaching

Do you feel misunderstood by your roommates, peers, or professors?
Are you having problems navigating courses and finding financial help?
Do you feel the need to constantly explain your routines, interests, cultures, backgrounds?

College is not always easy. Navigating college in an entirely different country with unfamiliar cultural traditions and unspoken living practices can be more difficult and can feel lonely. Not only are you juggling academic challenges to maintain your visa status, but you are also creating a home far, far away from home while learning to adapt to a completely new environment. That’s hard! And we’re here to tell you: We see your effort, and it’s okay to not feel on top of everything!

Whether you are a first-year student, continuing or graduate student, you are not alone. CIRCLE offers one-on-one 40-min appointments for you to meet with our Student Success and Well-being Coordinator, Maja! Maja will collaborate with you to explore your strengths, values, and cultural backgrounds in order to maximize your growth during your time at the UW and beyond.

Whether meeting in-person or via Zoom, you get to choose how and when to have your appointment.

Meet our Student Success & Well-being Coordinator!

Hello, my name is Maja (pronounced Maya)! I am a PhD student at the College of Education. I have worked as a counselor in international schools in Europe and Asia for many years, and I am passionate about helping international students find academic and personal success at the UW! I am originally from Belgrade, Serbia. Having lived in China and the U.S., I can relate to both the challenges and the triumphs that come with living outside of one’s home country. Based on acculturation research and my own experience, social support is crucial when it comes to adjusting to a new culture and making the most of the international student experience. We are not meant to go through this alone! Luckily, the UW has many fantastic resources to support international students. I would be delighted to meet with you (in-person or virtually) to talk about your challenges, plans, hopes, wishes, and experiences, and explore strategies and resources that could help you achieve your personal and academic goals!

Here are some things you can reach out for support on, plus anything else you would like to share with me!

  • Homesickness
  • Finding a community / Loneliness
  • Lack of motivation
  • Academic pressures and challenges
  • Uncertainty about majors, careers, the future
  • Multicultural and multilingual identity
  • Self-doubt / Self-esteem
  • Gender and sexuality exploration and expression
