Graduate International Students

CIRCLE adopts student-centered and strengths-based approaches to address the needs of international graduate (master’s and doctoral) students through resource sharing and tailored programming. We recognize that it can be challenging for anyone to navigate the complex university ecosystem. Therefore, we collaborate with key campus partners to curate resources that will help you make the most of your graduate experience at the UW. We are committed to supporting your success in the way you define it and hope to celebrate your accomplishments with you during your journey at the UW.

Centering support, engagement, and advocacy – the three foundational pillars of CIRCLE, we provide the following opportunities for new international graduate students from the moment they confirm the intention to enroll into one of the UW graduate programs. In addition, we provide services to continuing international graduate students.

For New International Graduate Students

Welcome to the University of Washington!

In partnership with International Student Services (ISS), the Graduate School, the Career and Internship Center(C&IC), and UW Libraries, we offer official university-wide welcome programs to new international graduate students each quarter. These programs highlight immigration information, strategies to navigate graduate school, ways to connect with campus resources that provide academic, professional, and social support, and opportunities to network and to build friendships with students from across the world. In addition to in-person welcome events, we also communicate with all international graduate students via e-newsletters on a regular basis. If you are starting graduate school in the fall, we provide virtual webinars featuring strategies to support your transition to graduate school.

We are excited to welcome and connect with you as you start your journey at the UW!

Summer Engagement Programs

To alleviate the information overload during orientation, CIRCLE offers summer engagement programs – a series of virtual workshops and student engagement opportunities for new international graduate students coming in the fall to explore ways to navigate graduate school, learn about university resources, and connect with their peers.
