IMA Membership

The Intramural Activities (IMA) Building is UW’s premier fitness center nestled on the bank of Lake Washington.  The IMA includes a swimming pool, gyms, assorted courts, locker rooms, indoor track, climbing center, cardio and weight rooms and a variety of studio spaces. Members also have access to locks, lockers, and towel service.

Memberships to the IMA are available on a quarter or annual basis for University of Washington students, employees and UW retirees.  Spouse and Plus One memberships are also available.  Membership restrictions apply.

Membership Information & Eligibility

Due to the IMA closure, we are not accepting renewals or new membership purchases.  Once the IMA re-opens, we will update our membership options.

SUSPENDED 3/16/20:  Spring Quarter 2020 memberships will be available for purchase on March 16, 2020.

Student

UW Seattle Students

Eligibility: All registered, matriculated, UW Seattle students who pay the Services and Activities Fees may use the IMA by presenting their current Husky ID Card*.

*Husky ID Cards are non-transferable and should never be used by anyone else to gain access to the IMA. Misused Husky ID Cards will be impounded.

UW Tacoma & UW Bothell Students

Eligibility: Current UW Tacoma and UW Bothell students may purchase an IMA membership. When purchasing membership, bring your UW Husky ID Card to the IMA Member Services Desk.

Student Summer Memberships

Students enrolled in Spring or Autumn 2020 classes but not attending classes during Summer term may purchase an optional Summer IMA membership. Memberships can be purchased by bringing valid Spring Quarter 2020 Husky Card or Autumn 2020 Enrollment Confirmation Acknowledgement from the Office of the Registrar.

*UW Bothell/UW Tacoma students do not need to have purchased an IMA membership in Spring.

Student Spouse/Plus One

Eligibility: Students and on-leave graduates with a valid IMA Membership may purchase a quarterly membership for their Spouse or sponsor one person over the age of 16 from their household as their Plus One for an additional fee.  A Spouse or Plus One membership allows independent access to the IMA during all hours of operation. To be eligible for a Plus One Membership, individuals must be a roommate or family member who resides with them in the same household (must live at the same address).  Students may sponsor only one Plus One member at any time.

Purchasing Membership: 

All Student Spouse and Plus One memberships must be purchased at the IMA Member Services Desk. When purchasing a membership, please bring the following:

Spouse Membership

  • Husky ID (Primary member)
  • Photo ID (Spouse)
  • Marriage Certificate

*Renewal of Spouse membership – only the Primary member needs to be present

Plus One Membership

  • Primary member and Plus One*
  • Husky ID (Primary member)
  • Photo ID (Plus One)
  • Proof of Residency and Photo ID for both individuals are required at time of purchase and renewal of a Plus One IMA Membership.  Acceptable forms of documentation are listed below.  All documents must be in paper form EXCEPT a Lease Agreement, which may be accepted on a mobile device or computer/laptop/tablet (PDF version).  Both names and address must be on the same piece of documentation OR one document for each individual with the same address on both.

Required documents:

  1. Valid Driver’s License or other form of official state or Federal ID for each individual
  2. Proof of residency (for each individual):
  • Lease Agreement (paper or PDF) – must have both names, dates of lease, and signed

OR

  • Recent utility bill (gas, water, electric, landline phone, cable company)
  • Recent bank account statement (may not be older than 3 months)
  • Recent credit card statement (may not be older than 3 months)
  • Insurance Card/Insurance policy
  • Voter Registration Card/Certificate of voter registration
  • Recent pay stub
  • Mortgage statement
  • Tax assessment
  • Correspondence from a government authority regarding the receipt of benefits ie pension, unemployment etc.

*Renewal of Plus One membership – The primary member (person with active IMA membership via eligibility) AND Plus One member must both be present to renew IMA membership. Proof of residency and photo ID are required at time of renewal.

Guest Policy

Students with IMA membership, UW Employee IMA Members, UW Employees who purchase a Single Use Pass, Spouse IMA Members, and Plus One IMA Members may sponsor one guest per day (defined as a friend or a person you know) 16 years of age or older (proof of age required) upon payment of the single use guest fee. The sponsor must appear in person with their guest.

All guests MUST show valid photo identification with proof of age.

Guests are not eligible to use the IMA Crags Climbing Center facilities or participate in classes, intramurals, or other paid program areas.

UW Employee or UW Retiree

Eligibility: Current University of Washington faculty and staff who are active in Workday and University of Washington retirees with a Retiree Husky Card are eligible to purchase IMA membership.  Bring your UW Employee or Retiree ID Card to the IMA Member Services Desk.

UW Employee or UW Retiree Spouse/Plus One

Eligibility: Faculty, Staff or UW Retiree’s with current IMA membership are eligible to purchase a Spouse membership or sponsor one person over the age of 16 from their household as their Plus One for an additional fee.  A Spouse or Plus One membership allows independent access to the IMA during all hours of operation. Payroll Deduction

Reoccurring bimonthly payroll deduction is available for purchase of a UW Employee annual membership, UW Employee and Spouse annual membership, OR Plus One membership (for qualifying faculty/staff). Please inquire at the IMA Member Services Desk for bimonthly rates.

  • One-time payroll deduction is available for purchase of a UW Employee annual or quarter membership, Spouse annual or quarter membership and Plus One annual or quarter membership.
  • If you plan to continue your membership purchased via payroll deduction, your annual membership will be automatically renewed, and your paycheck will continue to be debited unless you notify us.
  • If you choose to stop payroll deduction after one year you will need to submit a payroll deduction cancellation form, available at the Member Services Desk or send a notification to cancel via email to julies14@uw.edu including your full name, employee ID number and date you would like your membership cancelled.

Purchase Your Membership

All new memberships must be purchased in-person at the IMA Member Services Desk. To purchase membership:

1) Bring Husky Card to Member Services Desk in IMA lobby

2) Pay using check, Husky Card, VISA/Mastercard/Discover/American Express, or payroll deduction (if eligible)

3) After purchase, Husky Card becomes IMA membership card

*Part-time employees without a Husky Card, Spouses and Plus One members will receive an IMA membership card at time of purchase

Frequently Asked Questions

I have an annual IMA membership, but the IMA is closed. What will happen to my membership?

All Annual memberships that were active on March 16th, 2020 will be extended by the number of days that the IMA is closed. 

I have an IMA membership that I pay for via payroll deduction. Will my deductions be stopped during the IMA closure?

All deductions for IMA membership will be stopped on the April 10, 2020 paycheck (you will still see a deduction on your March 25, 2020 paycheck as you pay for your use of the IMA from March 1-15 via this paycheck).  Payroll Deduction Memberships will re-activate when the IMA re-opens and deductions will begin accordingly per the payroll schedule. 

I have a basket/locker at the IMA. Will I still be able to access my items when the IMA re-opens?

Yes, you will still be able to access your items when the IMA re-opens.  All Winter Quarter basket/lockers will be automatically renewed for Spring Quarter.  All Annual baskets/lockers will be extended to match your new membership end date. 

How do I contact Member Services?

Due to the IMA closure, please email recinfo@uw.edu. Staff are currently monitoring and responding to emails in a limited capacity.

What is your cancellation & refund policy?

Refunds for Membership Fees require the approval of the Operations Manager. The following are viable reasons for permitting Membership Fee refunds:

  • Termination of employment or withdrawal from class
  • Change in employment status: shift change, home department, or job duties
  • Cancelled Sports, Mindfulness and Fitness class registration
  • Medical request: unable to use service, may include family medical leave
  • Exceptions: hardship special circumstances require the prior approval of the Associate Director, Facilities & Operations

Refunds for check transactions must be refunded by check.

Credit card refunds must be processed via credit card transaction credit.

Refunds will include that portion (prorated) of the State Retail Sales Tax based upon the tax rate charged at the time of purchase for those transactions where the tax was applied.

Refunds are permitted in accordance with the refund schedule, available at the Member Services Desk.

For payment by reoccurring bimonthly payroll deduction:

  • The payroll deduction must continue for at least one year from the date of purchase.
  • The membership and deductions will continue after the first year until a cancellation form is filled out at the IMA Member Services Desk or an email is sent to julies14@uw.edu with your full name, employee ID number, and date of cancellation.  There will be no refund and the deduction will be stopped according to our stop schedule.  An email confirmation will be sent once the stop has been processed.

For payment by one-time payroll deduction:
To receive a refund for an one-time payroll deduction, please fill out a refund form at the IMA Member Services Desk or email julies14@uw.edu.

Can I sponsor more than one guest?

No. IMA members are only allowed to sponsor one guest per day.

Do you offer child care?

No.  The IMA does not have child care available.

Do you offer guided tours?

The IMA offers self-guided tours.  Check in at the Member Services desk with a photo ID.  If groups would like to schedule a tour, please email recinfo@uw.edu.

Can I try out the facility before purchasing a membership?

Current UW Employees are eligible for a Free Week Trial (valid for 7 visits and expires in 7 days; can only be applied one time).  Current non-matriculated UW Seattle students, UW Bothell or UW Tacoma students must purchase a single use pass to use the facility (see ‘Membership Types & Fees).

Who pays the Services and Activities Fee?

Registered, matriculated, UW Seattle students. You can find the ‘Services & Activities’ fee under the Tuition Charge Breakdown on your tuition statement.  The fee varies depending on how many credits you are taking.

Do I have access to a basket/locker?

Yes.  If you have an IMA membership, you can check out a basket/locker for the duration of your membership or you can check out a day locker.  If you purchase a single use pass, you can check out a day locker.  Personal locks are not allowed.  For more information about locker rooms, click here.
