OFFICIALS HIRING PROCESS

Officials’ Info Meeting: Thursday, Sept 26th at 6pm – online via Zoom

Priority Application Deadline: Oct 2nd at 11:59pm

Open Hiring Assessment: Oct 3rd – times TBD

Please bring a water bottle and wear athletic attire/gym shoes. Come ready to move! If you are interested in officiating for both basketball and futsal, you must attend both assessment.

Applicants interested in learning more about officiating for Intramural sports should attend the Officials’ Info Meeting. The Hiring Assessment act as an applicant’s interview and must be attended to be considered for the position. Interested applicants who did not submit an application before the application deadline are welcome to come to the Assessment, however, an application must be filled out directly following the event if not already completed.

Hired officials must attend the required training clinics for their sport(s).

Post-Hire:

Join this quarter’s crew of incredible Intramurals student-staff for a fun meet-and-greet! Kick off your first training by getting to know your new coworkers and receiving your Official’s uniform at the IMA Lounge on Oct 8th.

REQUIRED OFFICIALS PAID TRAINING

Required officials training, which you are paid for, takes place within the first two weeks of the quarter. Trainings range from in the classroom to live game experience before leagues begin. Dates and times will be released after the hiring assessment. All Officials must pass their sport-specific rules quiz at the end of their training before being scheduled to work any regular season league games.

Information covered in officials’ training is designed to help you become a better employee and official, and you are responsible for knowing the rules and basic mechanics. Officials training is intended to emphasize important aspects of the Intramural Program.

 

INTERN HIRING PROCESS

IMs INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTION 

SUMMARY 

As one of the largest programs offered by UW Recreation, Intramurals serves over 10,000 players each year and employs roughly 100 student staff. To keep up with the consistent growth of the program, Intramurals is seeking our first ever intern to assist with the program for roughly 10 hours a week for fall, winter and spring quarters. This position is paid, starting at $19.97/hour. This is a tremendous opportunity for individuals who love sports and are looking to gain experience in athletics, sports and event management, recreation or education. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Intramurals Intern will assist with the following: 

  • Administrative tasks such as scheduling games, printing out scoresheets, checking the RecIM email account, conducting site visits for programming, etc 
  • Staff development tasks such as contributing to officials hiring, training and evaluation, etc 
  • Player relations development tasks such as leading the IMs Player Committee, planning a champions banquet, promoting players across campus and social media, etc 
  • DEI related tasks such as leading the expansion of IMs programming into new adaptive sports offerings, applying for grants to secure funding for DEI initiatives, planning Affinity Group events, etc

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be a current UW student, at any level (can be undergrad, grad or PhD) 
  • Passion for sports, athletics and/or recreation 
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and orally 
  • Experience in organization of large-scale projects with many moving parts 
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines  
  • Skilled at floating between small tasks and big-picture ideas 

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

  • Graduate-level student or upperclassman 
  • Previous experience working in sports, athletics or recreation 
  • Previous experience playing any of the main sports we offer at UW Intramurals (Football, volleyball, basketball, soccer or softball) 
  • Event management experience 
  • Familiarity with game scheduling software such as IMLeagues

This means you’ll have to bring in some official documents (not copies), such as a passport or a driver’s license and social security card. Please look at this list to see what you would need to bring and ensure you would have it in time for the meeting. If these documents are at home, get it shipped to you or grab it between now and 10/8! This is a requirement for any and all positions on campus, so regardless of if you get hired for this specific position or not, it’ll be good for y’all to have them on you.
