About the Event

For the second year in a row, UW Intramurals hosted their annual All Star Weekend Adaptive Sports Fundraiser – this time in Alaska Arena!

Hosting local partners such as Rainier Adaptive Sports and Seattle Adaptive Sports, UW Intramurals put on a wheelchair basketball demo in addition to it’s standing basketball competitions in 1v1, 3 point shooting and slam dunk. Reigning National Champions UW Men’s Soccer guest judged the slam dunk contest, as well as former Team USA Paralympic Head Coaches for Wheelchair Tennis Dan James and Jason Harnett (UW ’94).

About the Event

Upon launching its first ever wheelchair basketball league, Intramurals saw all timeslots fill up with 12 total teams and 40+ participants. Playing a full regular season and ending with a single-elimination playoff bracket, Intramurals saw their future Hoopfest stars Wyatt, Mick and Keegan win their championship shirts. This league was made possible by our great partners at UW Medicine’s Physical Therapy Program and our committed team of volunteers, led by Kate Rough from the Dept of Rehab.

About the Event

The largest 3v3 tournament in the world, Hoopfest takes over downtown Spokane every June with over 25,000 participants and shows off why it’s nickname is “Hooptown USA”. This year, UW was able to send two teams to the wheelchair basketball division – thanks to our generous sponsors Guardian Life Insurance and partners Michigan Adaptive Sports & Fitness.

In their first ever tournament, the University of Washington Wheelchair Basketball team took home the top prize for the Runner Bracket in Spokane.

After going up against Paralympians from Columbia, Canada, Italy and the US, the UW Purple team held their own and earned respect as the new kids on the block. Congratulations to Mick, Keegan and Wyatt for the win and hard-launching UW’s Wheelchair Basketball program!
