  • Getting academic credit for research
  • Presenting or publishing your research
  • Writing an email to a potential mentor
  • Preparing a resume to share with a potential mentor

URP Advising Options

Option 1: Attend an Information Session

Thursday from 3:00-4:00 PM (virtual)

Join us for a virtual information session to learn the steps for getting involved in an undergraduate research experience. This is a comprehensive session that covers what research at UW looks like, benefits of undergraduate research, who can get involved, and how to find and write an introductory email to a research mentor. You may sign up for an information session by clicking the hyperlink below. The session will begin at the top of the hour.

Option 2: Attend Group Advising - Getting Started in Research

Mondays from 2:00-3:00 PM, Mary Gates Hall Suite 171, Multipurpose Room

These sessions will be more informal conversations about getting started in research. If you were unable to attend an information session, you’re more than welcomed to join in this conversation. This option is also for students who attended an information session but still have questions about getting involved in undergraduate research. Students will sign in at the front desk of Mary Gates Hall Suite 171 and will be called back when the session begins. The session will begin at the top of the hour.

We highly recommend that students utilize the first two options before coming to individual advising. Many students find that the information session material alone greatly prepares them to get started in research. This allows us to spend more time working through more specific questions during individual advising hours.

Option 3: Attend Drop-In Individual Advising

Tuesdays from 3:00-5:00 PM, Mary Gates Hall Suite 171, URP offices

If you think your questions cannot be addressed using options 1 or 2, you can join us in Mary Gates Hall Suite 171 for drop-in individual advising appointments at the times listed above. Students will sign in at the front desk, wait in the lobby, and will be called back to meet with an advisor in the order in which they have arrived.

If none of these options work with your schedule, you can access limited, remote individual advising appointments by reserving a time at this link: https://calendly.com/dgurpadvising/individual.
