Planning & Budgeting

Institutional Analytics & Decision Support

Institutional Analytics & Decision Support (IADS) in Finance Planning & Budgeting is responsible for analyzing and reporting on data that support the planning activities of University administration, in collaboration with campus stakeholders. The office provides data informed insights to guide institutional decision-making and supports strategic planning efforts. In addition, IADS is responsible for responding to a wide variety of internal and external requests for information about students, faculty and staff, as well as other key areas of University activities.

IADS partners with Academic and Student Affairs, central UW-IT, Academic Personnel, and other campus stakeholders to deliver data and analytics through self-service dashboards and reports; publicly available data on the website; and custom requests for reporting and analysis. Through these mechanisms, IADS supports campus and college-level strategic planning, accreditation, peer benchmarking, and program review.

IADS work products include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Reporting of official census data for students, faculty, and staff (e.g., CDS, Annual Enrollment Reports);
  • Completing federal and state compliance reports on behalf of all three campuses (IPEDS, PCHEES);
  • Gathering and submitting survey rankings information to external requestors (e.g., College Board, Princeton Review, US News);
  • Responding to annual collections of faculty information and salaries;
  • Supporting data and reporting needs of institutional accreditation reports and campus-wide national initiatives (e.g., APLU, ATI);
  • Participating in data exchanges with peers through the Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange (CSRDE) and AAU Data Exchange (AAUDE)

UW Profiles (on the BI Portal)

IADS partners with UW-IT to produce and deliver data and analytics through self-service visualizations and reports. UW Profiles uses data from the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to allow members of the UW campus community to explore and aggregate trend data at the level of the University, campus, school or college, or department.

Additional Internal Data

In addition to the information provided through enterprise BI Portal, IADS is often called upon to develop ad-hoc or custom reports, dashboards, or analyses. Some of these products can be found on the Tableau Server or through a secure SharePoint site. Additional information, including peer benchmarking, can be obtained by contacting uwir@uw.edu.

Public Data

Additional information can be found on our website and is available for public consumption. This includes institutional FastFacts, public dashboards, Common Data Set (CDS), and survey submissions.

IADS Goals
