Alene Moris Women’s Center

How long is the UW Moris Leadership Academy?

The program runs monthly from March through June during Spring quarter. Each session is 2.5-hours on Friday afternoons.

Where is the Academy located?

The Leadership Academy will be held in-person on UW Seattle campus. We will offer hybrid opportunities upon request. Typically, the University of Washington Seattle campus is home to the 10-week Academy with one day held off-campus. The Women’s Center will work with participants who seek particular accommodations.

Who is eligible?

The Leadership Academy is open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in any Washington State college or university of any gender identity. Students graduating in the spring and students entering the following fall quarter are eligible. Students are welcome to apply directly to the program. Nominations from faculty, staff, alumni, and students are encouraged but are NOT required.

The Academy seeks a diverse cohort and encourages students from a variety of backgrounds, fields of study, and interests to apply. Non-traditional students are encouraged to join. Our participant’s ages range from 19 to 50 with majors as diverse as Music, Engineering, Journalism, Neuroscience, Spanish, Business, Anthropology, Nursing, and more.

How much does it cost?

The UW Moris Leadership Academy administrative fee is $100 for students accepted to the program. We strongly believe in equitable access to educational opportunities and offer a limited number of scholarships to help cover the cost. However, to be considered for a scholarship, you must first try to find funding through your program/department or through another source (job, organization, etc.). If you are applying for financial support, please complete the Scholarship Application Form.

Can I nominate someone to apply?

We are accepting nominations for the 2024 Leadership Academy. More information about the process is available here. We will reach out to students who have applied and/or have been nominated.
