Alene Moris Women’s Center

Educating for life and leadership

The UW Alene Moris Women’s Center is a catalyzing place for collective change. We help to forge both belonging and resilience on and off campus, and our team brings together a community of different people all coming and working from different departments and pasts here at the University of Washington. Together, we offer up a transformational and supportive set of educational programming, leadership development, as well as a variety of workshops, services, and events. The goal is, again and for us, to help provide a space for catalyzing collective change by creating, cultivating, and then sustaining opportunities that allow for people to better grow, blossom, and bloom. Lastly, the UW Women’s Center is open, welcoming, and available to all interested students, staff, faculty, and community members.

We provide access to resources and opportunities that help to promote leadership skills in addition to leadership development for those community members who may need some help in voicing and uplifting issues which impact not only them but also their communities.

While we welcome all students, we do emphasize supporting those students who are first-generation to higher education, returning or non-traditional students, as well as aspiring leaders on their career paths as the first to do so.

I want there to be a place in the world where people can engage in one another’s differences in a way that is redemptive, full of hope and possibility.

The history of the UW Alene Moris Women's Center

The Women’s Center is housed in historic Cunningham Hall and operationally with the College of Arts and Sciences. Since its inception over 100 years ago, the Women’s Center has served the community in a multitude of ways –- including acting as meeting place for the suffragists who fought for women’s right to vote in our state.
