Workshop 1: Navigating the waters: Understanding sources of opportunity to get into undergraduate research
Tuesday, October 6, 2:30-3:30pm in Mary Gates Hall 171
This workshop session will start with a brief overview of the ways undergraduates can pursue research here at the UW—from just getting started, to more advanced opportunities. After, the workshop will shift to the attendees, focusing on taking time to have attendees locate opportunities of interest to potentially apply for, note key dates, or reach out to learn more about their selections.
Workshop 2: Independent and cold outreach to inspiring researchers and potential mentors
Wednesday, October 28, 4:00-5:00pm in Mary Gates Hall 171
This workshop session will start with an overview of independent and cold outreach (if missed session 1), where attendees will learn more about how to locate opportunities that require independent outreach and then more about how that process works. After, the workshop will shift to the attendees, focusing on having attendees draft and, if ready, send those independent and cold outreach communications.
Workshop 3: Who would have thought? Applying for summer programs in the dead of winter
Monday, November 16, 3:30-4:30pm in Mary Gates Hall 171
This workshop session will start with an overview of formal summer programs (if you missed session 1), where attendees will learn more about how to locate opportunities that are hosted during the summer and require formal applications, such as REUs (Research Experiences for Undergraduates, SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) or SURP (Summer Undergraduate Research Program). After, the workshop will shift to the attendees, focusing on having them locate opportunities of interest and understand their plan of action.
