College Prep Program

6 – 12 STEM support

The College Prep Program engages middle and high school students in STEM and helps them to become competitive college applicants.

We partner with teachers, administrators, school district officials and industry representatives to provide students with a range of tools. With after school tutoring, state-wide STEM competitions and mentorship in a supportive MESA community, students can reach their fullest academic potential.

The College Prep Program includes:

Academic planning: MESA staff help students develop individualized plans and monitor their progress.

Study skills and test prep: Students learn the most effective techniques for academic achievement and prep for important tests, including the SAT and PSAT.

MESA periods: These classes, held during the school day, enable advisors (math or science teachers) to work with students on academics and MESA activities.

Career and college exploration: Guest speakers and field trips show students different college and career options.

Summer math scholars: This three-week summer program is designed to give incoming freshmen a chance to start high school above their grade level in their math class.

Scholarships: The Boeing Scholarship and The Weyerhaeuser Scholarship each provide scholarships of up to $2,500 to selected MESA students.

Teacher trainings: Annual institutes offer MESA pre-college advisors opportunities to learn hands-on curricula and new techniques to teach math and science.

Parent leadership development: Parents learn how to become effective advocates for their children’s academic success.

MESA Day

Every MESA Day, middle and high school students are challenged and engaged through a range of events and activities. Hands-on math and science competitions at local and regional levels give participants a chance to meet like-minded students and develop skills.

Advancing teams from each of the six regions in Washington move on to the State competition. One team from each engineering challenge will represent Washington MESA at the National MESA Day Engineering Challenge.
