Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for this event?

Graduate names are collected from UW and an email is sent out. There is a link on the Black Grad home page as well. If you have not gotten an email and are a graduating student, email uwblackg@uw.edu.

Can I update my registration information?

You can update your registration up until May 9, 2021 for it to show in the program correctly and get a stole.

Is this a ticketed event?

No. This event will be virtual for 2021. It will be live streamed on YouTube. See the home page for details.

What is the dress code for the event?

Graduates are strongly encouraged to wear their graduation regalia (cap/gown) and or cultural attire. Please email the committee if you have any issues with this uwblackg@uw.edu.

Where do I get the stole?

Stoles will be distributed in person at our Stole Party Pick-up on May 22, 2021. You must be registered (by May 9, 2021) for the event to receive a stole. We will work to mail any remaining stoles after the Pick-Up Party but there may be a delay due to mailing.

If I cannot attend the ceremony, or want it in advance, can I get a stole?

Traditionally stoles are only given out in person at the ceremony as a gift to graduates for participating in the ceremony, not as a graduation gift. For 2021, due to the pandemic and virtual event, the committee wanted to allow graduates to have their stoles in advance for any photos or to wear during all their celebrations.

How do I contact the Black Graduation Planning Committee with any questions?

You can contact us via email at: uwblackg@uw.edu. Please allow 48-72 hours for a response.

Will the event have ASL or captioning?

Yes, this year’s virtual event will have both ASL interpreters and Real Time Captioning. The YouTube Livestream will also have Closed Captioning options.
