Welcome New Huskies

WHAT:
Advising & Orientation (A&O) will give you a comprehensive introduction to the Husky Experience and life at the UW.

At a separate Parent Orientation, parents and guardians can learn about the UW and how to support you while you’re here.

WHY:
During A&O, you’ll register for classes, learn how to get involved at the UW and connect with an academic adviser.

WHEN:
You can reserve a space now. You’re required to attend the full program, which includes pre-A&O modules.

HOW:
Sign up for A&O SESSION

Choosing an A&O session

In line with local and state guidance, most Advising & Orientation sessions and Parent Orientation will be offered remotely. First-year students are required to make a reservation for a remote A&O session. You must accept your offer and pay the New Student Enrollment and Orientation Fee before registering for A&O. Each session’s capacity is limited. Please log in to the A&O reservation system to reserve a space for a remote A&O.

After reserving your remote A&O, you will receive access to complete the Online Pre-A&O Modules on your own time. Make sure you complete these modules at least 72 hours prior to attending your remote A&O session.

  • International students studying in the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa must complete the International Student Services online information session and pass the online quiz before attending their A&O session. (You can retake the quiz if you don’t pass the first time. You must pass the quiz before you can register for classes during A&O.)

During your remote A&O, current students (also known as Orientation Leaders), will lead you through discussions and activities with academic advisers and campus experts, and will be on-hand to give advice and answer questions.

After attending A&O, you will have registered for classes, discovered campus resources and started to make connections with the UW community.

Freshman:

First-year U.S. and international students are required to make a reservation for the one-day (winter admit) or two-day (fall admit) remote A&O session.

A separate remote Parent Orientation will be offered for parents and supporters to learn more about the UW and how to best support their students.

Transfer:

All transfer students must attend a general one-day remote A&O session during the summer.

Selecting a session

As you consider which session to attend, please keep in mind:

  • Submit proof of immunization.
  • The length and requirements of your A&O session will depend on whether you are a freshman or transfer student AND whether you are a U.S. or international student. (See First Year Programs for details.) Full attendance at your entire A&O session is required.
  • All students register for classes during A&O and class time options will begin to fill on a first-come first-served basis. Signing up for the earliest possible A&O program will give you the widest selection of classes.
  • Prior to your A&O session, see if you need to take any placement tests. You will not have time during your A&O session to take placement tests.
  • Transfer and Running Start students, don’t forget to have an unofficial copy of your most recent transcripts from all previous institutions of higher education on-hand during your A&O session.
