Welcome New Huskies

Welcome, parents and families of New Huskies!

Congratulations on your student’s admission to the UW! It’s an achievement to be proud of— and we know you’ve been an essential part of all the steps leading up to this moment. The college decision can be both exciting and overwhelming for students and their families. But rest assured that while the UW is large, it’s not impersonal —we help students find their smaller community of peers and mentors based on their interests and goals. And for families, we offer a wealth of resources to help you make an informed decision and stay as involved as you’d like once your student becomes a Husky.

We look forward to answering your questions as you begin this journey, and we hope to welcome you to our UW family. The department of Parent & Family Programs offers several programs to support you and introduce you to the Husky Experience.

Parent & Family Programs

The Parent and Family Program launched in 2014, as a university wide priority to improve and centralize parent and family communications with a focus on equitable access to information and programs in support of their student’s success. The program has now expanded to include the monthly UW Parent Insider e-newsletter, Official UW Parent & Family Facebook and Instagram pages, Parent & Family Guide, Parent & Family events, webinars, career and wellness resources. COVID-19 safety

The UW is a national leader in responding to COVID-19, and the health and safety of our
students is at the top of our list.

As we look ahead to the start of autumn quarter, we recognize that you may have questions about what the Husky Experience will look like. Therefore, we invite you to join us during Admitted Student Preview (ASP) for a panel discussion with campus leaders who will share more about our intent to safely return to largely in-person learning this fall, as public health guidelines permit.

Date: Thursday, April 8
Time: 5 – 6 p.m. Pacific Time
Panelists:

  • Dr. Geoff Gottlieb, Chair, University Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases (ACCD)
Medical Director, Environmental Health & Safety Department
Professor, School of Medicine, Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
  • Dr. Denzil Suite, Assistant Vice President for Student Life
  • Dr. Ed Taylor, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs
