Large Animal Services
Animal Surgery Suites are available at the ARCF, Brotman, and Harborview facilities for non-rodent species. DCM Veterinary Staff are available for hire (Research Staff must have IACUC certification in large animal anesthesia to perform anesthesia independently).
Our team of highly skilled veterinary technicians, veterinary residents, and senior faculty clinicians are experienced in a variety of species-specific anesthetic and surgical techniques aimed at supporting your research needs.
Scheduling is based on the specific needs of research groups and the availability of the veterinary staff. Surgeries are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis between 9:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00am – 2:00pm on Fridays. Scheduling on weekends and after-hours will be considered by special request only.
Surgery and anesthesia services include:
- surgery suite rental (suite +/- anesthesia support staff)
- imaging (x-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy)
- surgery and anesthesia consulting
- training (anesthesia certification, surgery training).

Large Animal Imaging
The DCM offers multiple large animal imaging modalities aimed at supporting researcher needs. Select radiograph and ultrasound imaging procedures can be performed by experienced veterinarians depending on the goals of the experiment.
Fluoroscopic imaging is available in the Brotman vivarium through the Department of Radiology pending availability.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and CT scanning services for large animal studies are available through the FHCRC/UW Translational Bioimaging Core.
