Satisfactory Academic Progress

You must make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree to remain eligible for aid. The full academic progress policy is outlined in the Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid leaflet available from our office. Please review the policy online, print a copy online, or pick up a paper version from our office. You are responsible for knowing this information.

If you need to drop a class, take an Incomplete, or withdraw from school, your financial aid may be canceled. Check with us first. Furthermore, if you drop below full-time enrollment, any financial aid payment toward your tuition may be canceled. Check with us first to prevent this.

Briefly, you must:

  • Enroll full-time each quarter to receive your aid (unless you have specifically been granted aid for less than full-time enrollment).
  • Pass a minimum half-time credit load each quarter you receive financial aid (6 credits). More detailed information for part-time study requirements is available in the policy listed above. Less than half-time students must complete all the credits for which they enroll.
  • Pass an annual credit requirement, based on your enrollment (even if you don't receive aid the whole time). Undergraduates who enroll full time (12 credits/quarter) for Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters must pass 36 credits by the end of Spring Quarter. The annual credit requirement is adjusted for students attending either part-time or part of the academic year. It is increased for students who receive financial aid for Summer Quarter (except full-time Summer Work Study). Incomplete and failing grades do not count.
  • Complete your degree within a maximum time frame: 5 years for an undergraduate degree. (Transfer credits for undergraduates are counted as follows: 45 transfer credits = 1 year of full time enrollment). If you have exceeded the maximum time frame, you cannot be considered for financial aid, even if you have not received aid for all the years you enrolled.

A Satisfactory Progress Appeal form is available to explain unusual circumstances and appeal any of the requirements of the policy. If you want more information about Satisfactory Academic Progress review our Frequently Asked Questions.
