Academic misconduct

Academic Misconduct is best prevented up front with clear guidelines in your syllabus.  Write a policy statement in your syllabus about your expectations regarding plagiarism and cheating.  Remind students before the first assignment about your expectations regarding working together.  The best rule of thumb is to outline things in your syllabus as this is your class policy statement.  Be sure to let students know what the consequences are of engaging in academic misconduct. CSSC recommends writing a statement to indicate what you will do regarding grading and that you will refer the matter to the appropriate Dean’s Representative for possible disciplinary action.
