Since the beginning of UW IMSD, the program has had a Boot Camp for purposes of introducing incoming Freshmen (and occasionally a Transfer student) to science and mathematics coursework, how to study/learn techniques, adapt to the academic environment, learn from upper class IMSD Scholars how to navigate the UW, meet other students in the 2013 entering class, and the many resources available at the University of Washington and in the surrounding Seattle area.
Boot Camp participants learn about other opportunities available in the IMSD Program such as the freshmen seminar; paid research experiences (Teach Lab & Undergraduate Research Scholars); and travel funds to present research findings at national conferences. The two weeks spent on campus have been productive and well received by students. Boot Camp is funded by a substantial investment from the UW School of Pharmacy. Boot Camp 2013 will take place September 9 – September 20, 2013.
