Celebration is Back! Highlights from the 2022 Celebration Gala

A Message from VP Rickey Hall

Thank you for supporting our annual gala, Celebration, presented by the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and the Friends of the Educational Opportunity Program Board! We are grateful to our community of supporters who came together in person and virtually last week to honor Frank Irigon as the Charles E. Odegaard award recipient and to highlight our outstanding students.

It was a joy to gather again in community where we were reminded why our work is still critical, but more importantly why it is vital to have supporters like you in our community. We are better together and certainly our students, the University, and OMA&D are better because of your participation and encouragement. There were 245 in-person attendees and 168 virtual attendees for a total of 413 people together in community for the evening.

Together, we raised more than $410,000! Congratulations to everyone who stepped up and made an investment in the future – our students. These funds go directly to scholarships, student emergency needs, and to supporting the many students who utilize OMA&D and EOP services. The need for scholarships and emergency funds has never been greater. Thank you again for your renewed commitment to the success of OMA&D students.

I want to thank Angela King for serving as our emcee again this year. Angela has given her time and talent to this gala for countless years. We thank her for her unwavering support. I also want to thank the live band Chapter 5 for sharing their music and entertaining us throughout the evening, and the production crew who worked behind the scenes for weeks to bring Angela, Chapter 5, and our student’s stories to life. And, of course I want to thank our Celebration partners who are listed below for their early investments in the evening’s program and their contributions to our students’ success. This year’s gala would not have been possible without this team of supporters.

Although the Celebration gala is only one night of the year, there are countless ways to engage with OMA&D, our staff, and our students. You are a part of the OMA&D family, and your contributions of your time, talents, and continued financial support are an important part of what makes OMA&D programs so successful. If you are looking for ways to connect or stay involved, I encourage you to reach out to cpromad@uw.edu for more information.

Thank you again for attending the 2022 Celebration gala, and for your generous contributions. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
