The Award
The Excellence in Global Engagement Award is a new annual award that honors faculty and staff at the UW for their leadership in global engagement. The award will alternate each year between faculty and staff honorees. The inaugural AY 2022-2023 award will honor a UW faculty member. The award focuses on teaching, research, and/or community building activities that connect UW students, faculty, and staff to global communities locally, nationally, and internationally.
The award is the highest recognition for UW faculty and staff who make significant contributions to global engagement at the University of Washington and carries a $5,000 stipend.
Nominations for the AY 2022-2023 award closed December 16, 2022.
Criteria
The award seeks to honor UW faculty who have accomplished one or more of the following:
- Pioneered and sustained innovative academic advising, mentoring, career development, or service programs for students with a global emphasis;
- Developed innovative global teaching and research initiatives;
- Built or led communities that address issues that have global impact; or
- Engaged in significant research with a global focus that has demonstrable impact for local, national, and/or international communities.
Eligibility
All current UW faculty, lecturers, and instructors (with at least 50% FTE).
How to Nominate
Download and complete a nomination form, attach a nomination letter (no more than two pages) of how the candidate meets the award criteria, and email both the nomination form and supplementary nomination letter to uwoga@uw.edu.
Note: UW faculty may self-nominate.
Important Dates
- October 24, 2022: Nominations open
- December 16, 2022: Nominations due by 5:00 PM PT
- June 2023: Award recipient announced at annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony
