Quarantine

Rodents arriving from outside facilities usually go through a period of quarantine and testing before being released into the general animal facility population. Fenbendazole-medicated chow is fed in quarantine as prophylaxis against pinworms.

The duration of quarantine is determined by the RHMP, and may depend on the outbreak history of the sending institution. Most rodent quarantine durations are no more than 4 weeks which allows time for sample collection, shipping, and evaluation of test results.

Please see this flow chart of the quarantine release process.
