This page provides tools and guidance to support compliance with APS 10.13, which outlines requirements for University and third party-led youth activities and research. We recommend starting with the APS 10.13 Resource Guide.
Getting Started :
- Review the list of required trainings.
- Authorized personnel must be registered in the Youth Program Registration System (YPRS), where their training completion is also tracked. See: Resources for using YPRS.
- If you need to track trainings outside of YPRS, you can use the following customizable tools:
Strengthen Your Practices:
To fully comply with APS 10.13, training must prepare each authorized personnel to carry out their assigned duties safely and in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Foundational Training
- Required YPRS trainings provide a broad, baseline overview designed to apply across many types of youth activities.
- Because these trainings are general in nature, they are not sufficient on their own for all roles or activities.
Activity-Specific Training Expectations
- Programs must supplement YPRS trainings with activity‑specific topics and real‑world examples.
- Review these recommended training topics and incorporate those that are relevant to your specific activity.
- Authorized personnel are expected to understand:
- The context of their specific activity or program
- The types of situations that may arise
- How to respond appropriately to those situations
Implementation
The training resources provided below can help you develop discussion questions and scenarios focused on safe interactions with youth within the context of your activity.
These topics and discussions should be incorporated into:
- Personnel trainings
- Staff meetings
- Individual or group supervision
- A personnel handbook, as appropriate
