President’s statement on shootings in Mukilteo

The following is a statement from University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce on the shooting of four individuals in Mukilteo this weekend, three of whom – Anna Bui, Jordan Ebner, and Jake Long – were killed, and one of whom – Will Kramer – was wounded and is at Harborview Medical Center. Bui was a student at UW Bothell, while Kramer is a student on the UW’s Seattle campus.

“Words are inadequate to address the bloodshed that occurred this weekend in Mukilteo. The entire University of Washington community extends our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Anna, Jordan and Jake, in their terrible time of grief. And we offer our full support to Will and his family.

“There is no making sense of such senseless violence, especially for those of us who teach and learn at a university, where our greatest pride is watching young people reach their full potential. To see them taken from us is heartbreaking and painful. We encourage members of our community to reach out if they need help, and to utilize the counselors and other resources available for students, faculty and staff.”
