Summer Research Programs

Summer research programs give students the opportunity to have an immersive research experience during the summer period that might not be possible during the school year. Summer programs are a great chance for students to try something new or take their experience to the next level.

If you missed the deadlines for these formal summer programs, there are other ways to get started in research over the summer. See a URP adviser for help in locating these opportunities.

URP Summer Research Opportunities Program

Amgen Scholars Program

The University of Washington's Amgen Scholars Program provides a new and important opportunity for some of the nation's top undergraduates to explore and prepare for careers in biotechnology.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP)

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP) provides talented undergraduates with outstanding summer research experiences that encourage them to pursue careers in academic science. The students are selected to apply by HHMI professors and invited directors of HHMI-funded undergraduate programs at colleges and universities. EXROP students also attend meetings at HHMI headquarters where they present their research in a poster session, network with their peers and HHMI scientists, and hear from scientific researchers from various backgrounds and stages in their careers.

Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities

The Summer Institute in the Arts and Humanities provides a unique opportunity for selected undergraduates to earn full-time, academic credit through immersion in scholarly research with accomplished scholars and peers. Bringing together four faculty and twenty students in plenary, seminar and tutorial-style sessions, the Institute encourages mutual learning as well as independent thought.
