In recognition of their exceptional leadership and service in campus housing, UW’s Housing & Food Services team received the Presidential Service Award at the Association of College and University Housing Officers–International (ACUHO-I) annual conference last month.
The Presidential Service Award recognizes those who have made a lasting impact on ACUHO-I and the campus housing profession through service and leadership. It is awarded annually to one individual and one organization.
In his presentation of the award, ACUHO-I President Olan Garrett highlighted UW’s role in hosting the National Housing Training Institute (NHTI) for the past three years, along with the numerous contributions HFS staff have made across ACUHO-I.
“Since 2023, the campus has literally opened its doors to ACUHO-I to serve as the host site of the James C. Grimm National Housing Training Institute,” Garrett said during the presentation. “…That the staff takes on this responsibility during the so-called off months – and that they do so with such ease and style – is an invaluable contribution to one of our profession’s most highly regarded professional development events.”
Assistant Vice President and HFS Executive Director Josh Gana, who accepted the award on behalf of the UW, said that the award reflects the deep commitment HFS staff have shown to ACUHO-I over the years.
“Our team has contributed leadership, service and expertise that have helped strengthen the student housing profession internationally, and this recognition is a testament to those efforts,” he said. “I was honored to accept the award on behalf of the University of Washington.”
