Preclinical Research and Transgenic Services (PRTS)

The Preclinical Research and Transgenic Services (PRTS) is a core facility dedicated to the production, maintenance, and characterization of transgenic and gene-targeted mice for a wide variety of scientific disciplines. The PRTS, in operation since 1995, is administered through the Department of Comparative Medicine, located in the Magnuson Health Sciences Building in Seattle, Washington.

Transgenic technologies include random integration overexpression, mouse ES cell targeting, gene-targeted knockouts, knockins, point mutations, inducible and temporal expression systems, as well as embryo and sperm cryopreservation and rederivation. We also offer a comprehensive mouse colony management service as well as several technical procedures. Our services are available to all University of Washington investigators and outside institutions.
