Guidance for NIH Institutional Training Grants

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA)

NIH institutional training grants have specific guidelines and requirements that are adhered to by the University. This webpage serves as a resource for PIs and research administration staff when preparing, managing and closing out T32 Ruth L. Kirschstein Institutional National Research Service Award (NRSA) funding mechanisms, but much of the material applies to all T-funding mechanisms.

Considerations Before you Start

Preparing the proposal and managing your training grant are very different from other NIH awards. Depending on the kind of submission, competitive or a renewal, it is important to understand how training grants are different.

This Training Grant guidance will help PIs and their administrators discuss strategy, develop a realistic timeline, and outline expectations for others. Additional resources can be found through the School of Medicine training grant peer group Teams hub. Send a request to join the SOM training grant peer group Teams hub.
