Making Connections is a comprehensive college-readiness program that provides four years of personalized, life-changing academic and enrichment services to underserved students and their families in the greater Puget Sound area. We do this through the following programs and services:

making connections tutoring

Tutoring and academic advising

On-site tutoring in math, chemistry, biology, history, physics and writing is offered during the week, and students receive one-on-one academic advising from MC staff.

College preparation

Staff and volunteers tour college campuses with students, assist with ACT/SAT preparation and application submission, and provide feedback on personal statement writing.

MC mentoring

Mentoring

Students are matched with a college student or professional who shares their educational or career interests and meets with them monthly.

Life and Leadership Development

Through hybrid, virtual and in-person workshops, students explore leadership and self-advocacy skills, self-confidence, communication tools, and stress management strategies.

Summer Bridge

Summer Bridge introduces incoming high school students to STEM careers and encourages them to plan their high school studies with college in mind.

Students attend conferences and visit places such as UW Medicine, Google, Microsoft and Boeing to connect with professionals working in STEM fields and industries.
