Statement from UW President Ana Mari Cauce regarding Nov. 15 attack on Muslim student

“The University of Washington condemns the attack against a Muslim student earlier this month in no uncertain terms. We continue to offer our support to the student and we stand with the Muslim community here today and all who oppose any form of bigotry, harassment, or hate. Our university is and will always be a welcoming place for people of every race and faith, including our Muslim students, faculty and staff.

“The UWPD is continuing to investigate this incident. As I shared in a message to all our campuses after the assault was reported, anyone who violates our Code of Student Conduct or other policies will be referred to the UWPD and/or the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct and may face disciplinary or legal action. If anyone has any information about this or any incident targeting groups or individuals for harassment, I urge you to contact the UWPD immediately.

“The values of inclusion, respect and human rights are fundamental to the UW, and we will continue to honor and protect those values along with all the members of our community.”
