Corporate & Foundation Relations

Learning and development

Central CFR is committed to fostering communication, coordination and collaboration among UW colleagues working in corporate and foundation relations. We hold monthly roundtables to share and discuss timely topics, including best practices, trends and challenges, with the goal of increasing the University’s ability to build engagement and partnership with corporations, foundations and other organizations.

All UW employees interested in corporate and foundation relations are welcome to attend. Please see our list of upcoming roundtable dates.

New in 2019, we have moved some of our most popular and recurring roundtable topics — including Gifts/Grants/Contracts and the Lifecycle of a Sponsored Program — to semi-annual workshops. Whether you are a seasoned CFR professional or new to the field, we have a workshop for you. Join us to learn about tools used in successful CFR work, or listen to presentations from experts around the University on essential CFR processes and systems. Check out our upcoming workshops.

Professional and community connections

The Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations enjoys participating in many organizational fundraising networks, including within the UW, locally and nationally. All team members are happy to share skills, provide career guidance, cultivate a thriving CFR fundraiser community, participate in benchmarking projects and meet for informational interviews, including in-person (post COVID-19 restrictions), video conferencing, telephone or email. We welcome all to contact us.

Custom trainings

Central CFR staff are available to lead custom trainings for your unit on a range of topics. Past trainings include an overview of CFR at the UW, using available systems and reports to locate information on corporations and foundations, proposal writing, early career opportunities, understanding the lifecycle of a sponsored research award, non-disclosure agreements and intellectual property. Please contact Carolyn Smith at to discuss your custom training needs.
