In 1988, the United States Congress designated October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) was selected as the lead agency to provide training and promotional materials to help individuals across the country plan local disability awareness events.

Participants include private and public employers, educational institutions, advocacy groups, service agencies, and others. You can choose to be involved in National Disability Employment Awareness Month by taking one or more of the following actions:

  • Select one or more days in October and plan a local disability awareness event or events.
  • Download the full-color promotional NDEAM poster, or request up to twenty-five free printed copies to distribute.
  • Incorporate the annual NDEAM theme into your local event.
  • Request from NDEAM the press release and send it to media along with information about local events, if any.
