A new role. I am truly honored by my recent appointment by Provost Ana Mari Cauce as Vice Provost for Digital Initiatives. In this role, I will be called to provide leadership in a number of areas. Wilson receives Atkinson Award for outstanding achievement. In June, Dean Lizabeth (Betsy) Wilson accepted the American Library Association's Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. The prestigious award honors risk-takers and contributors in academic libraries. Learn more.
Kylie Lanthorn
UW Tacoma undergrad wins award. Kylie Lanthorn recently received an Undergraduate Library Research Award for her paper, The Subversion of Free Play: A Study of the Impacts of Parental Philosophies and Socioeconomic Factors on Television Usage of Children. Learn more.
Odegaard Library
Odegaard Library: Ready for students! Following a year of construction, the UW opened a newly-renovated Odegaard Library earlier this summer. After a $16 million renovation, the library is now equipped to serve students like never before. Learn more.
Azusa Tanaka
Welcome Japan Studies Librarian Azusa Tanaka. The Libraries welcomed Ms. Azusa Tanaka back to the East Asia Library as the Japan Studies Librarian on July 1. She will be responsible for collection development, library instruction and reference, and community outreach and related professional activities. Learn more.
Virginia Wright
Listen: Oral Histories of Northwest Artists. Undertaken in the 1970s, the Archives of Northwest Art project recorded interviews with artists such as Dennis Evans, Virginia Wright (pictured), and William Ivey. Listen to these luminaries discuss their backgrounds, techniques, and creative processes. Learn more.
Grays Harbor Memories
Grays Harbor Memories set to air. UWTV will air Grays Harbor Memories, the Libraries documentary featuring the historical reels of C.D. Anderson and interviews with Grays Harbor County historians and researchers. Screenings will be at 9 p.m. Oct. 2, 8:30 p.m. Oct. 3, and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6. Learn more.

Fay Jones
Hear from a Northwest art icon. Fay Jones will discuss her creative process and the history of her work in the Pacific Northwest at the FREE 2013 Anne Gould Hauberg Libraries Artist Image Series event. A question-and-answer session will follow Jones' lecture, and a reception with the artist and light refreshments will follow. Oct. 11. Learn more.
UW Constitution Day 2013
Help the UW commemorate Constitution Day 2013. Join us for a non-partisan reading of the U.S. Constitution outside the Graduate Reading Room in Suzzallo Library. You're invited to read a few sentences from the historic document and listen to as much as you'd like. Oct. 3. Learn more.
