UW Tacoma undergrad wins award

Grays Harbor Memories

Kylie Lanthorn (IAS: Arts, Media and Culture) received an Undergraduate Library Research Award for her paper, The Subversion of Free Play: A Study of the Impacts of Parental Philosophies and Socioeconomic Factors on Television Usage of Children.

The study examined how parents understand their child's exposure to media, as well as how socioeconomic factors impact media use. Lanthorn's Faculty Advisor was Ellen E. Moore, Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at UW Tacoma.

The award recognizes students who ...

  • Demonstrate unusual depth or broadness in the use of library resources and media collections
  • Identify, locate, select, evaluate, and synthesize library resources
  • Creatively use those resources to develop a project in any medium that shows originality and/or has the potential to lead to original research in the future
