From the Dean

I truly am honored by my recent appointment by Provost Ana Mari Cauce as Vice Provost for Digital Initiatives.

The Libraries has long been at the forefront of digital scholarship, a trend that continues with this appointment. I will be called to provide leadership in a number of areas, including:

  • Development of an overall university strategy on digital issues in a wide variety of areas, including open access and open science (propelled by the Obama Administration memorandum on public access to the results of federally funded research and data)
  • Leadership in data stewardship at UW, including an infrastructure to preserve the digital scholarly record
  • Support for digital scholarship at UW
  • Promotion of inter-institutional global research
  • Innovative use of information resources in teaching and learning

I am proud that we continue to be a leading academic library on the forefront of digital scholarship through our work with such organizations as OCLC, the Orbis Cascade Alliance, the HathiTrust and the Western Regional Storage Trust.

My work as Dean of Libraries will continue while contributing to this visionary position created by Provost Cauce.

I am honored and will continue to count on my colleagues, locally and around the world, to join with me as we take advantage of the many exciting opportunities for connecting people with knowledge any time and any place.
