Kristin Esterberg selected as chancellor of UW Bothell

University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce and Provost Mark A. Richards announced the selection of Kristin Esterberg, president of the State University of New York at Potsdam, as chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell. Her appointment, pending approval by the UW Board of Regents, is set to begin Oct. 1.

Thank you for agreeing to serve on the advisory search committee to actively recruit and recommend candidates for the position of Chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell campus. This search may involve both internal and external candidates. Gowri Shankar, Interim Vice Chancellor for Planning and Administration and Associate Professor, School of Business, UW Bothell and Edwina Uehara, Dean and Professor, School of Social Work, UW Seattle, will co-chair the committee.  As you can see, the committee is composed of outstanding individuals with a range of expertise.  We seek a distinguished academic and a collaborative and inclusive leader who will embrace and advance UW Bothell’s mission to deliver transformational learning opportunities in a dynamic, multicultural community.

Executive Order 20 in the University of Washington Policy Directory linked here, sets forth the basic procedures for conducting a search for a chancellor.  Enclosed is a general job description for chancellors. The University has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which I ask you to consider seriously as you recruit a pool of candidates. Please establish protocols for seeking the opinions and nominations from the broader faculty, student, and staff communities at the University of Washington Bothell, as well as appropriate constituencies within the broader UW community and outside the University of Washington. At the conclusion of the search, we would like to receive from you the unranked names of 2 to 3 highly qualified candidates.

We will attend a portion of your first committee meeting to discuss our priorities and expectations for the position and the search. At this meeting we will also seek your input on a draft position announcement. We are engaging a professional search firm to assist you in this search, which we will announce soon.
