Fostering growth for emerging UW leaders through Provost’s Academy

Full-time faculty from all tracks encouraged to apply by March 9

The greatest strength of the University of Washington is the people who create our unique take on the academic mission. Elevating diverse perspectives from different vantage points in the University is key to our continued excellence.

To provide a pathway for integrating those perspectives into institution-wide projects, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Provost’s Academy, an immersive program designed to recognize and engage emerging faculty leaders throughout the University. The Provost’s Academy will provide a dynamic experience that blends experiential learning, collaborative projects, and networking and mentorship to foster both personal and professional growth for participants and advancement of our academic mission. Through direct collaboration within one of the main functional areas of the Office of the Provost, participants will have the opportunity to advance meaningful, positive change in the University. Specifically, Provost’s Academy participants will:

  • Engage in strategic thinking and planning alongside senior UW leaders
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the issues that affect the administration of UW programs and initiatives and their interconnectivity

Eligibility

Any full-time faculty member – all tracks and all three campuses – who has been appointed at the UW for at least three years and is beyond the first promotion review.

Compensation

One month’s salary for Summer ’26 will be provided directly to the faculty member.  For Autumn ‘26, Winter ‘27, and Spring ‘27, funds equivalent to two course buyouts will be provided to their home academic unit. These funds may be used for a course buyout, replacement faculty, a research/teaching assistant, or other directly related costs that enable the participating faculty member to engage in the Provost’s Academy. These funds may not be used for additional compensation for the participating faculty member.
