“Ways of Knowing” Episode 5: Abstract Pattern Recognition, or Math
In this episode, Jayadev Athreya discusses mathematics as the language of abstract pattern recognition. A University of Washington professor of mathematics and of the comparative history of ideas, Athreya argues for introducing creativity earlier in students’ careers. This allows them to think more expansively, he says, and search in unexpected places for solutions.
